Napoleon Beverage

Boy, you stop for one tour and they get to use your likeness forever.....

Courvoisier says:
The origin of our history goes back to the beginning of the 19th century with Emmanuel Courvoisier and his associate, Louis Gallois, running a wine and spirit merchant company, in the Parisian suburb of Bercy. In 1811 Napoleon visited their warehouses in Bercy and he was hosted by Louis Gallois, the Mayor, and Emmanuel Courvoisier. Legend has it that Napoleon I later took several barrels of cognac with him to St Helena, a treat much appreciated by the English officers on the ship who named it 'The Cognac of Napoleon.'

Hmmmmm. Difficult to prove. More difficult to disprove. I am sure there was an inventory taken on St. Helena.

Germaine de Stael

Germaine was one of the most influential women in Paris during the Napoleon era. She ran a regular salon and often used the platform to make fun of Napoleon, being a royalist at heart.
There is a sentiment attributed to her that I particularly like, even though it really has nothing to do with Napoleon.
"Ugly" was an adjective never employed by Germaine.
She could not bear it.
"She would never describe a woman as pretty or ugly,
only as either deprived of or endowed with exterior advantages."

Napoleon Maxim

"Orders and decorations are necessary in order to dazzle the people."
